Catar 2022: el mundo unido en una pasión

Empieza el Mundial. Se despierta una pasión que une al mundo. Porque el fútbol es más que un deporte. Estoy convencido de que es una herramienta muy poderosa para la cohesión social. Una que genera espacios de diálogo y promueve valores como la sana competencia, la paz y el desarrollo sostenible.

En los torneos internacionales, especialmente en la Copa del Mundo, es donde mejor se expresa este espíritu unificador del fútbol. Nos ofrece un sentido de comunidad global que se necesita hoy más que nunca. Lo necesitamos, sobre todas las cosas, para poder afrontar en paz los desafíos del siglo XXI.

Por eso quiero felicitar al pueblo de Catar y a SE el Jeque Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, por el trabajo y la dedicación a favor de la pasión por el fútbol. Por asumir el desafío de que juntos, la gran comunidad futbolística global, Catar y la FIFA, incluida la Fundación FIFA, podamos ayudar a construir puentes que contribuyan al progreso mundial. Especialmente para niños y jóvenes de todo el mundo.

El deporte y la educación han sido fundamentales para alimentar el vínculo entre Argentina y Catar. Tanto a nivel bilateral como con el resto del mundo, son agendas importantes que nos ofrecen un horizonte para seguir trabajando juntos en el futuro.

Tal como lo hicimos en 2013, cuando se decidió que los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud se realizaran en Buenos Aires (2018), no tengo ninguna duda de que durante la Copa del Mundo de Qatar se podrá demostrar al mundo cómo el deporte une a nuestras sociedades bajo el espíritu de sana competencia.

Llegó la hora. Espero que podamos vivir este Mundial con toda la alegría y el entusiasmo. A partir de ahora, lo más importante es el fútbol.

Qatar 2022: the world united in one passion

Another World Cup begins. A passion that unites the world reawakens. Because football is more than a sport. I am convinced that it is a very powerful tool for social cohesion. One that generates opportunities for dialogue and promotes values such as healthy competition, peace and sustainable development.

In international tournaments, especially in the World Cup, it is where this unifying spirit of football is best expressed. It offers us a sense of global community that is needed today more than ever. We need it, above all things, to be able to peacefully face the challenges of the 21st century.

That is why I want to congratulate the people of Qatar and HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for theirq commitment in favor of the passion for football. For taking up the challenge that together with the great global football community, Qatar and FIFA, including the FIFA Foundation, can help build bridges that contribute to global progress. Especially for children and young people from all over the world.

Sport and education have been fundamental in feeding the bond between Argentina and Qatar. Both bilaterally and with the rest of the world, these are important agendas that offer us a horizon to continue working together in the future.

As we did in 2013, when it was decided that the Youth Olympic Games were held in Buenos Aires (2018), I have no doubt that during the World Cup in Qatar it will be possible to demonstrate to the world how sport unites our societies under the spirit of healthy competition.

The time has come. I hope that we can experience this World Cup with great joy and enthusiasm. From now on, football is what matters the most.
